Luminaire Ultra®

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for your purchase of this Luminaire Ultra® transparency illuminator. It is designed to provide you with the finest illumination and the most functional operation possible. Please take a few minutes to review these simple instructions in order to achieve maximum benefit from this product, with a minimum of effort.

INSPECTION

This unit has been well packaged to protect it from damage during the rough type of handling often encountered during shipment. If it has arrived damaged, you may be assured it has received extraordinarily severe treatment by the carrier. In cases of damage, first notify the carrier to file a damage claim. Then contact our Customer Service Department to remedy your situation.

OPENING PACKAGE

If you wish to save the packaging for reshipment, the foam channels surrounding the unit should be carefully removed and stored inside the package.

If the unit is to be reshipped repeatedly, especially to trade shows, we recommend that it be placed inside a special reusable shipping container. Such containers are available through local carton manufacturers, or may be ordered from Clearr Corp.

PREPARING THE UNIT FOR USE

In sizes with both dimensions under 48", open dual-position, spring-loaded hinge section for easy transparency access (fig. 1).

In sizes with either dimension 48" or greater, it may be necessary to place a 25¢ coin or a screwdriver blade in the top slot and gently twist (fig. 2). Alternatively, you may grip the middle of the frame section and simply pull to snap open the frame.

If the unit is a wall-inset model, slide a screwdriver blade into the notches under the top part of the frame as shown in fig. 3.

Open the hinged frame with a gentle twisting motion.

Remove the acrylic sheets. [Note: These are protected during shipment by an adhesive paper or film, which should now be peeled off.]

Foam-encased lamps and mounting hardware may be found packaged within the unit.

Unwrap the lamps and install into lamp sockets by inserting the prongs into the sockets and turning until they lock into position (fig. 4).

TRANSPARENCY INSTALLATION

To install the transparency, place it between the two acrylic sheets provided (fig. 5). The acrylic sheets and transparency may now be reinstalled in the illuminator, and the hinged section closed.

LAMP & TRANSPARENCY CHANGES

In sizes with both dimensions under 48", open the hinged section per instructions under "Preparing the Unit for Use". Remove transparency sandwich (both acrylic panels and transparency) and insert new transparency between acrylic panels and place back into frame. Close hinged section.

To change a lamp, slide the acrylic sandwich out as far as necessary. Replace the lamp, slide the acrylic back into place, and close the hinged section.

In sizes with either dimension 48" or greater, open unit per instructions under "Preparing the Unit for Use".

To change the transparency, simply remove the existing transparency and insert the new transparency into place. To change a lamp, simply remove the old lamp and install the new lamp in place. Then secure the frame section by moving it into position and tapping the upper corners until it snaps into place.

HINTS FOR BEST TRANSPARENCY USE.

If moisture or static electricity spots are visible, insert a small amount of talcum or foot powder on the transparency where these spots appear.

If the transparency appears wrinkled or wavy, suspend the transparency by taping it to the top of the back piece of acrylic. It may be necessary to trim a slight amount off the top or bottom of the transparency to accomplish this. If you intend to use the same transparency for an extended period and/or near a window, we recommend the use of Cibachrome® or process-printed transparencies.

LAMP REPLACEMENT

Note: For proper illumination, lamps should be replaced when they grow noticeably dimmer, or develop dark areas at the ends.

Replace lamps with identical lamps only. In most models, the lamps contain a color-correct phosphor. These lamps are normally not available at retail outlets, such as hardware stores. They may be ordered from some commercial supply companies, or you may call toll-free for prompt, direct shipment from Clearr Corporation at competitive prices.

CAUTIONS

  • Observe the electrical requirements on the label before connecting.
  • Do not use improper current.
  • Unplug before servicing. If hard wired, turn off circuit before servicing.
  • Ballasts should be replaced only by qualified electrical personnel.
  • If you have ordered a hard-wired configuration, electrical connection should be performed by a qualified electrician.

WALL MOUNT: INVERTED "J"

Box hangers (inverted "J") and a matching wall hanger are provided in wall-mount models.

Hold the unit against the wall in the desired location, and mark the position of the top center of the unit. Next measure the distance to the center of the unit. Next measure the distance from the top of the unit to the top of the hanger on the back of the unit. Use this same distance, less 3/8", to determine the position of the wall hanger holes below the mark just made on the wall. [Note: on large sizes the hangers are not centered. If you have a large unit you must mark your positions on the top of the unit directly above each hanger.]

Install the wall hangers. If the surface is wood, use a 1/8" drill. If the surface is gypsum (plaster) board, use a 1/4" drill and insert the plastic anchors provided. Position the "J" hangers and insert the screws. Position the box hanger on the back of the display unit over the wall hanger, Exert a slight downward pressure to test for soundness of hanger installation.

SUSPENDED MOUNTING

Optional hanging loops are attached when unit is ordered for this application.

Attach appropriate hanging hardware, (chain, cables, etc,) to suspend unit.

COUNTER OR TABLE TOP MOUNTING

Optional aluminum feet must be ordered for this application.

PEDESTAL MOUNTING

Attach the posts to the sides of the unit using the hex head bolts provided. The larger holes in the post should be facing outward. Use the nylon spacers between the posts and the unit.

Attach the crossbar to the posts using the socket-head bolts provided (two to each side).

Attach the pedestal feet to the posts using the socket-head screws (two per foot).

Attach the adjustable glides to the pedestal feet.

Press hole plugs into place (eight total).

RECESSED MOUNTING (WALL-INSET MODEL)

Mounting holes are on side of unit. A hole is provided on the back of the unit for a conduit connection. (If the conduit must enter through another location, you may cut a hole for this purpose through any side of the unit).

To mount: fit unit into recess so that lip of frame is flush with wall.

We recommend that the hole be cut into the wall 1/8"-1/4" larger than the part of the unit that is to be recessed. (The lip of the unit that mounts flush with the wall is 3/8" wider than the unit on all sides.)

Use 3/16" x 1" wood screws and fasten through sides in holes provided. Avoid bowing the sides of the unit as you tighten the screws. Use shims if necessary.

If you have ordered a hard-wired configuration, electrical connection should be performed by a qualified electrician. Note: hard-wired configuration must be ordered for mounting into any permanent wall.
